S.A. Damm implements electronic voting in its union elections

The S.A. Damm case

S.A. Damm chose Kuorum's online voting technology to conduct its union election process in a more sustainable manner. This approach reduced costs, increased participation rates, and expedited the vote counting process.

Damm is one of the most prominent producers of beer and beverages in Spain. With more than 140 years of history, the company has established itself as a leader in both national and international markets, operating from its headquarters in Barcelona. It currently has a global workforce of over 5,100 employees across multiple countries.

More participation at a lower cost

For a company like Damm, with numerous locations and a large workforce, organizing union elections with physical ballot boxes and paper envelopes was a challenging task. Setting up itinerant voting stations not only involved high costs but also created logistical challenges for organizers. Furthermore, employees often had to travel to these stations, which sometimes led to decreased voter turnout due to the inconvenience.

Thanks to Kuorum’s technology, Damm employees were able to vote via email, using any device, and without the need to travel. This significantly reduced the time each employee needed to cast their vote and facilitated participation, especially for those working remotely or away from their usual workplace on election day.

Once voting was completed, results were available within minutes. Electronic voting eliminated errors during the counting process and streamlined the procedure, allowing electoral board members, HR personnel, and union representatives to conclude their duties without delays.

"We needed to optimize the time and resources dedicated to planning the electoral process."

A turnkey service

Digitization union elections offers numerous benefits for all parties involved. However, it is crucial to reach a consensus among electoral board members, union representatives, and HR leadership. That’s why all stakeholders were actively involved in the project from the initial stages.

In the first meeting, the technical and legal aspects of the process were explained. Once the security review was successfully completed, tests were conducted to ensure everything functioned correctly. Afterward, the employee census was refined and uploaded to the voting platform. On election day, the voting announcement was sent, and employees had access to a dedicated support line to address any questions.

Electoral board members were supported by a dedicated agent who monitored the process throughout the day, provided updates on participation rates, and sent reminders to those who had not yet voted, as directed by the board.

Facilitating collective decision-making

By digitalizing its union elections, Damm successfully reduced the costs associated with traditional voting methods. This alternative increased employee participation and expedited the vote-counting process.

Additionally, online voting has proven to be a sustainable and environmentally friendly option, eliminating the need for physical materials and reducing CO2 emissions. It also makes voting more accessible for individuals with disabilities, providing a convenient and inclusive way to participate.
