Atlántica's commitment to electronic voting
The restrictions brought on by the pandemic have meant that many companies have opted for different ways to go ahead with their shareholder meetings and voting. At Atlantica they had to find a voting solution that would allow their employees to decide on internal issues. They opted for an online vote, replacing face-to-face voting and ensuring they complied with health restrictions while protecting their employees.
In Spain, electronic voting is a legally viable option, as stated in Royal Decree-Law 5/2021, and is an alternative to in-person voting. Atlántica trusted Kuorum to carry out the voting and guarantee the security in the identification of voters, the integrity of the data and the legal validity of the whole process.
Online voting with legal validity and personalized service
From Kuorum we ensured that the process was secure and guaranteed the legality of the vote. We provided Atlantica with a two-factor authentication system (email and SMS), which means that only those authorized to vote could do so with a substantial level of security in the identification. In addition, at Kuorum we work with a trusted service provider who provides us with a qualified time stamp (a requirement of the European eID Regulation). For each registered vote, an advanced electronic signature certificate is issued, which allows us to prove the validity of the process in the event of a challenge. In this way, the voter is given a convenient and secure voting experience.
Atlántica also contracted a turnkey service, so all it had to do was deliver the census to Kuorum, after signing an access contract. Atlántica's electronic voting platform was ready in a few minutes. Once the census had been purged and uploaded, the voting and the corresponding call for votes were prepared. And just a few hours later, employees were able to vote.
The day of the vote
Atlántica decided to delegate the management of the vote to Kuorum, which provided a technical support team. The vote was a success, with an incident rate of less than 1%.
